Material processes iteration (From A-N)
I’m having an ongoing process of reiterating my digital diagrams onto various types of paper and materials to best retain the material origin of the work, without resorting to the classic presentation of it on a screen.
The pro and con of displaying work on screens
If I remember correctly, in The Function of the Studio essay, Daniel Buren iterated that the artworks in the studio is the unique space of production, differs from the museum as a site of presentation. I believe it’s the same principle with presenting digital art on another medium. However, screens have become a part of our daily routines now, so the counter argument is that it’s a breath of fresh air to see work on a non-digital form of presentation.
Mixing the art with curatorial strategies to display artwork
There were a few occasions where I was able to express different methods of showing work in exhibitions. For the Summer Camp 2025 exhibition at Eastside Projects, I’ve presented one of my diagrammatic works in my previous MA Fine Art folder with all the theoretical readings attached to it.
Prior to this, I managed to have a crit about the diagrams. I’m very grateful for the opportunity at EOP to do so, because me and the crit group created the version that was shown at the Summer Camp show.
More materials to test on
I’ve made a new diagram on Adobe Illustrator a few days ago, and in the process of etching it onto air drying clay. The title of the work – Walk of fame, has informed this decision, because I’m thinking of the parallels between the arts and showbiz.
Having it etched onto air drying clay in the shape of a floor tile would unearth this idea of the same institutionalised beliefs associated with these two fields.
