The cost of production (From A-N)
I made an impromptu piece on Sunday morning, attaching a £50 note and drawing a diagrammatic flow chart around it, which compares itself to the sensationalism strategy the YBAs in the 90s used.
I framed it in a conventional white wooden frame and added a security tag to play along with the idea that the piece would get stolen in an actual gallery. It’s also a visual that subtly introduces the idea that galleries are run on the basis of commerce.
I later added whiteboard pen annotations onto the glass to show further thoughts, which made the work aware of its own position in the art system. The whiteboard characteristics of the frame allow me to keep editing the work over time.

I’m facing a problem with having this shown in an actual exhibition, because it poses risks of being stolen. I’m considering making an iteration with a counterfeit £50 note instead, but I can play into this idea of it being counterfeit (and a reproduction) by changing the diagram slightly to fit the situation. It’s going to be called The cost of reproduction.
